To offer a more effective learning experience the University has decided to streamline the courses offered by the department of Voluntary Sector Studies. This means that modules will only start once a term and you will need to choose which modules you would like to take from the ones offered in a particular term (see table below). Students will be required to complete a minimum of 40 credits in each academic year and progression is at the discretion of the exam board.

Questions about module choices
What if I’m not sure which module to take next?
Contact the department so that you can speak to a tutor, who will advise you about module choice and help you to plan your course.
A module I wanted to take is no longer listed. Can I still take it?
We have dropped a few modules with very low enrolment or that were considered to be out of date. Contact the department to discuss your options.
Can I sign up for more than one module at a time?
Yes, as long as you can dedicate enough time to your studies to meet the deadlines for both modules.
What if I can’t take the course I need to complete a level this term?
It may be possible to take a course at the higher level, but you will need to speak to a tutor. Please contact the department.
Questions about regulations and procedures
When will I receive my course materials?
You will receive your Moodle enrollment key by the start date. If you have not, please contact the department urgently. You can then find all your course materials on our Moodle.
What if I can’t meet my deadlines?
You will need to apply for an extension before the deadline has passed. You will need to provide evidence of the reasons for your extension request, and we will inform you whether your extension has been granted. If you fail to do this you will be awarded a mark of 0 for the assignment. However, if you fail an assignment it will normally be possible, at the discretion of the exam board, to resit that assignment for a maximum mark of 40%.
Due to exceptional circumstances I was unable to complete an extension form on time. What should I do?
You will need to speak to somebody in the department and complete an extenuating circumstances form, which will then be taken into consideration at the exam board.
What do I do if I need to defer my studies?
Contact the department and complete a deferral form. This will need to be approved by the Head of Department, and you may need to provide evidence of your circumstances.
