Course Descriptor:

This course begins by giving an historical perspective on the development of the concepts of training (andragogy) and learning (pedagogy). It looks at how these have merged in recent years with increasing emphasis being given to experiential learning.

It goes on to explore different training environments and the importance of group work within this. The course explores how training can be strategically developed within an organisation, focussing on contracting to train, training needs analysis, setting aims and objectives, training methodologies and evaluation of training provision.

The Module ends by placing the development of the importance of training within the voluntary sector within a wider social and political setting, examining the development of lifelong learning, the NTOs and at a practical level explores issues around the training of volunteers. It gives details on the need for the trainer to consider their own professional development and gives useful networks and resources that can be tapped.
