In much of the literature the terms 'coach' and 'mentor' are treated as if they are synonymous. This Module establishes the differences and explores the commonalties between the two roles and their associated skills. It goes on to explore mentoring and coaching from both theoretical and practical perspectives.
The Module will be set in wider context, providing an examination of the adoption of a national/political rationale behind mentoring and coaching. It continues by detailing some of practicalities of setting up a scheme, and how the coach/mentor can be supported at an organisational level. Overall, the Module draws upon a wide range of disciplines, including organisational development and change, learning theory, interpersonal skills and evaluation.
