Course Description:

Anthropology studies how people live together, the rules they make, what they believe in and how they make meaning of their worlds. It is a challenging and fascinating subject that covers all facets of human behaviour from eating habits to belief systems in the hope of finding some answers to the type of questions asked above.

Studying anthropology introduces the student to how the world's populations function and understand life and in doing so, aims to broaden understanding and their outlook on humanity generally. The course is divided into two sections:

The first half focuses on allowing the student to meet people from other places, to get to know them and to analyse how anthropologists have studied them, followed by an examination of contemporary anthropology, known as 'anthropology at home'.

The second part of the course aims to introduce the student some practical experience of anthropology itself through the completion of a small anthropological project on a subject of their choice. Tutors act as guides to the project, as the student feels necessary.
