Course Description:

This course is about managing in voluntary organisations or what it takes to turn visions into action in these organisations.

Most voluntary organisations come into being to turn the vision of an individual or group into practical action. Whether large or small, long-established or recently formed, with a large paid staff or volunteer-led, all voluntary organisations engage in management in order to do this.

The course explores the key management processes of strategic planning, attracting and managing resources, managing people and managing service delivery and campaigning. It examines what makes managing in voluntary organisations different to managing elsewhere. The themes of the module are:

  • Managing in a value-based organisations
  • Differences between voluntary organisations
  • Equal opportunities
  • Volunteer and user involvement
